Event Description

This three part food preservation series taught by Farmer Katie and Liz Hartman will cover then many ways to preserve fruits, vegetables, and tomatoes. Hygiene and preserving safety will be the center piece of each workshop as we show you how you how to put up the Colorado harvest so you can eat local all year long! Workshops are scheduled from 10-12pm but they may run over if you choose to participate in the hands on demonstration. We suggest scheduling in some wiggle room if workshops run 30-45 minutes long (It's worth it, we promise!).

9/16- Fruit Preservation: In part one of a three part food preserving series, we will cover the ins and outs of preserving Colorado fruit. Topics may include jams, jellies, dried fruit, fruit butters, canned whole and halved fruits, and freezing. Everything you need to know to put up fruit to enjoy through the winter! There will be a hands on part at the end of the workshop (depending on what fruit is most available!).

9/23- Vegetable Preservation: In part two of the food preserving workshop series we will look at several ways to preserve a bountiful vegetable harvest. Topics may include pickling, freezing, water bath canning, fermenting and freezing. You may be surprised at the delicious pickled creations you can create from your garden! This workshop will end with a refrigerator pickle hands on demonstration!

9/30- Tomato Preservation: The three part series will wrap up with tomatoes! Tomatoes are a dynamic fruit to preserve that can pose a unique challenge and year long rewards! Think pasta sauce, canned whole and diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sun dried tomatoes, home made ketchup, frozen tomatoes, oh my! After this workshop you will be able to handle all the tomatoes your garden can dish out.
 
Workshops will be held at Mountair Park Community Farm (located in the SE corner of Mountair Park at the corner of 13th & Depew St. Lakewood).
